ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

The South Hams Hospital League of Friends was founded in February 1973 as a registered charity. Its objective is to relieve patients and former patients of the hospital and others in the community who are sick, convalescent, disabled, handicapped or infirm, and generally to support the charitable work of the hospital.

Over the years, with the help of the League of Friends, the hospital has developed into an excellent local resource, able to offer both in-patient and out-patient facilities. These include:

  • 47 clinics run by visiting consultants
  • X-ray facilities
  • Physiotherapy
  • Minor injuries unit
  • Chemotherapy unit (currently suspended)
  • Renal dialysis
  • The Triangle Centre (access through the Mustard Tree at Derriford)

Various community services also operate from the hospital. The Friends are committed to supporting the South Hams Hospital and to retaining all our local facilities which are so vital to our community.

In 2011 The South Hams Hospital League of Friends reached the milestone of £2 million in donations.
